The Online Palliative Care Companion Certification qualifies dedicated individuals to support seriously ill and dying patients along with their families, placing dignity and quality of life at the center of end-of-life care. Tailored for professionals in nursing, medicine, therapy, psychology, social work, and pastoral care, as well as compassionate relatives and volunteers, this program instills the emotional competence and practical knowledge needed to navigate the challenges of terminal illness.

The curriculum encompasses psychosocial dimensions of illness, dying, grief, and bereavement, practical end-of-life companion strategies, family guidance, and ethical and legal frameworks in palliative environments. Participants gain deep insights into interprofessional healthcare collaboration, existential questions surrounding dying and mortality, and essential self-care strategies designed to prevent burnout and emotional exhaustion while maintaining professional boundaries.

Instruction combines 13 comprehensive study booklets, interactive self-assessment tools, tutor-graded assignments, and a mandatory three-day practical seminar available both on-site and as a live interactive webinar. Developed in collaboration with experts from the German Association for Palliative Medicine (DGP) and accredited by the Registry of Professional Nurses (RbP), this course provides flexible distance education supported by a digital study center.

Applicants must be at least 23 years of age, hold an intermediate school leaving certificate (mittlerer Bildungsabschluss), and possess strong communication skills. Prior practical experience in educational, social, nursing, or therapeutic environments is recommended to maximize learning outcomes.
