Online Psychological Counselor Training

The Online Psychological Counselor Training program equips aspiring counselors, healthcare practitioners, and career changers with fundamental psychological competencies to support individuals through personal crises, decision-making phases, and life challenges. Participants gain foundational expertise in psychological theories and solution- and resource-oriented consulting methods, preparing them to work responsibly in private practice, social institutions, or corporate consulting roles.

The comprehensive curriculum addresses central psychological models, conversation techniques, client-centered communication, systemic questioning methods, and support in life crises. In addition, students examine the boundaries between non-clinical psychological counseling and psychotherapy, conflict management frameworks, stress relief methodologies, and essential legal regulations governing self-employment and professional practice.

Structured as a flexible distance education course, the program blends comprehensive printed study manuals with an interactive digital web campus featuring multimedia exercises and tutor support. Students can tailor their study pace to balance work and personal commitments and deepen their counseling skills in two practical seminars of two and a half days each in Munich, Neuss, Wetzlar, or online, where they work on two of their own practice cases; without the seminars, participants receive only a certificate of completion (Theoretische Grundlagen der psychologischen Beratung) instead of the BTB certificate.

BTB requires a minimum age of 25 at the time of contract signing, an intermediate school-leaving certificate and/or completed vocational training, at least one year of work experience, emotional stability (written confirmation from the therapist if currently in psychotherapy), and confident German at C1 level or higher; individual requirements can be reviewed case by case. The course is AZAV-certified and can be funded up to 100 percent with a Bildungsgutschein. Prospective students can complete their enrollment directly via the institution's online registration system at any time throughout the year.
