The curriculum encompasses human anatomy, physiology of the digestive tract, metabolism, macronutrients, micronutrients, and whole-food principles across all life stages. Advanced modules focus on preventive nutrition and dietetics for conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disorders, alongside specialized diets, allergies, and fasting regimens. In addition to scientific fundamentals, students gain rigorous training in psychological communication techniques, client consultation dynamics, workshop moderation, and practical business setup strategies for launching an independent practice.
Delivered through 25 structured digital study booklets featuring self-assessment tests, the program enables fully flexible, self-paced learning alongside ongoing professional commitments. Practical counseling competence is solidified during an intensive live online weekend seminar featuring client role-plays and realistic case analysis under expert supervision. The course concludes with a written final examination after which Bergische Umweltakademie awards the certificate Zertifizierte/r Ernährungsberater/in. The course is approved by the German Central Office for Distance Learning (ZFU, approval no. 7106002).
