Program Description

The Online AZF Aeronautical Radiotelephony Training Course prepares prospective and active pilots for the examination to acquire the General Radiotelephony Certificate (Allgemeines Sprechfunkzeugnis für den Flugfunkdienst, AZF). This credential represents the highest radiotelephony certification for aviation in Germany and is a mandatory prerequisite for instrument ratings such as IR, CBIR, and EIR, as well as commercial and airline transport pilot licenses (CPL, ATPL). The course is suited for flight students, professional aviators, flight attendants, and airport ground personnel seeking comprehensive preparation for instrument flight radiotelephony.

The curriculum focuses on standard IFR radiotelephony phraseology conducted entirely in English, as required by international and national aviation standards. Participants work through simulated ATC operations covering clearance delivery, apron control, departure tower, en-route control, approach, and ground movement. In addition to simulated flight communications, students receive training on flight plan handling, special VFR procedures, and access to an extensive digital question trainer covering all theoretical examination questions and standard aviation English texts.

Instruction takes place live on a dedicated ATC communication server from Monday through Thursday evenings, facilitated by professional flight instructors, airline pilots, and air traffic controllers. Each session features up to four active controllers managing distinct frequencies to deliver authentic airport communication simulations followed by individual debriefings. Enrollment includes 365 days of full platform access, supporting materials, and interactive web-based media compatible with computers, tablets, and smartphones.
